The French Embassy, London UK

Concrete repair and protection

Reinforced concrete can be a highly durable structural material requiring little or no maintenance. However, it is now recognized that without correct design, mixing, placement and curing, the durability of reinforced concrete is compromised. Further protection should be provided immediately after construction if durability is to be increased.

In recent years, the repair of concrete structures has become a growth area in the construction industry. When the causes of concrete decay are better understood, it is clear that if more care had been taken at the time of construction, by following good concreting practice or by treating with an appropriate surface treatment, then far fewer repairs would be necessary now.
